CAS No.: 6484-52-2
Hazard Class: 5.1 (Oxidizer) / 9 (Miscellaneous)
UN No.: 1942 (Fertilizer grade) / 0222 (Explosive grade)
Appearance: White crystalline granules/prills
Description: Ammonium nitrate is produced through neutralization of nitric acid with ammonia, existing in porous prill (fertilizer) and dense granule (industrial) forms. As the world's most widely used nitrogen fertilizer (34-0-0 NPK), it also serves as the primary component in industrial explosives (ANFO containing 94% AN + 6% fuel oil). Its endothermic dissolution (+25.7 kJ/mol) and thermal decomposition above 210°C require strict temperature control during storage/transport.
